Chapel Hill, North Carolina — October 24, 2023 — The 105th Undergraduate Senate is pleased to announce the adoption of a bill providing additional funding to a number of student organizations. The bill, presented by Chair Andrew Forbes and co-sponsored by Vice-Chair Joshua Alexander of the Finance committee, was reported favorably by the Committee and then unanimously passed by the Full Senate. It officially went into effect on October 29, 2023, without the signature of Undergraduate Student Government President Christopher Everett.

The Subsequent Funding Cycle is designed to provide financial support to organizations that did not receive funding during the Budgetary Cycle. As part of the Subsequent Funding Cycle, 47 organizations will receive funding for a total of $ 53,922.51 appropriated as part of this Cycle. In addition, 11 organizations received funding from the Food Insecurity Funding Cycle, which is a special funding cycle of $20,000 the Undergraduate Senate created to fund efforts to combat food insecurity on campus.

The Finance Committee over the course of two weeks reviewed student organization’s budget requests for compliance with the Undergraduate Code, held hearings to hear from student organizations about their requests, and finalized appropriations in a viewpoint neutral manner. This comprehensive approach reflects the Senate’s mission towards enhancing the student experience and fostering a prosperous campus community through support of student organizations.
