Chapel Hill, North Carolina — January 16th, 2024 — The Senate of the Undergraduate Student Body proudly awarded the Medal of Merit to former Chancellor Kevin Guskiewicz by unanimous vote at the full senate meeting held on January 16, 2024.

The journey to honor Chancellor Guskiewicz commenced on January 3rd when the resolution to do so was introduced by Speaker of the Senate Andrew Gary. Subsequently, it moved through the Committee on Awards and Honors, where it was unanimously reported favorably on January 4th. Finally, on January 16th, the resolution passed unanimously during the full senate meeting, solidifying the recognition with the Medal of Merit.

Chancellor Kevin Guskiewicz, known for his exceptional contributions to academia and leadership, has been a pivotal figure in the University’s journey. As the former dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and later as Chancellor, Guskiewicz has left an indelible mark on our institution. 

The Senate recognized Chancellor Guskiewicz for his transformative leadership, including his commitment to academic excellence, affordability, and economic impact. Chancellor Guskiewicz’s legacy extends to his efforts in fostering research and innovation, as well as his dedication to community building and mental health support. Beyond his chancellorship, his contributions, involvements outside the university, and extensive service highlight the positive impact and wide reach of his work and commitment.   

In light of these accomplishments and recognizing his outstanding achievements, the 105th Senate of the Undergraduate Student Body proudly awards Chancellor Kevin Guskiewicz the Medal of Merit.
